Photovoltaic panels were installed in 2010 and their use is maximised by using an EMMA controller (PV Immersion Heating switch) that sends unused surplus electricity to heat the immersion tank.
Lighting by Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) and Low Energy Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s).
A range of no, low and energy efficient appliances are used throughout the house.
A water hippo is used to reduce water usage.
Sustainable building materials were used to insulate the roof of the sun room using lime plaster, parvaflex board and lime wash and Gabbions filled with cobbles in sun room as a thermal store
The garden is wildlife friendly and used to grow food using home compost including wormery and water collected in water butts.
