Jean Routledge and Alan Dixon welcome you to their 3 bed detached bungalow which is 43 years old.
Insulation: Cavity wall, top up loft insulation and hot water pipes in the airing cupboard was installed in 2004.
Hot water insulated as manufactured. Radiator heat reflectors on 2 main radiators installed in 2014.
Property already had full double glazing for many years.
Radiators have thermostatic radiator valves.
Solar thermal (water heating) was installed in 2009.
All our bulbs are low energy including LED reading light.
No and low energy appliances are used.
5 water butts are used to save rainwater together with a Heath Robinson self invented system for reusing water water from the washing machine. Buckets for shower water!
The garden is wildlife friendly including no pesticides/artificial feeds, a small pond and a woodpile. Veg is grown in small raised beds using saved grey water and home produced compost.
Jean says 'apart from installing a solar panel for our hot water, most of the improvements have been low tech and cheap to install ourselves'
